Lots of energy companies can offer advice when the temperature
drops, but we actually help our customers do something about it.
Our EnergyShare Weatherization Program assists seniors in
need, helping to make their homes more energy efficient, saving them money and
keeping them warm.
A component of Dominion's EnergyShare
program, the EnergyShare Weatherization Program is initially being implemented
in 2006 as a pilot program for eligible senior homeowners in Petersburg, Va.
With a $25,000 donation from Dominion, home weatherization specialists with
the Crater District Area Agency on Aging (CDAAA) will make improvements to homes
selected for the pilot. Learn more in our news
release.

recipients.
Eligibility
Seniors age 60 and over who have received assistance
from Dominion's EnergyShare program are eligible for the program. Income
eligibility will be 50 percent of the median income for the local area
or 150 percent of the poverty level. Dominion will provide the CDAAA
with a list a eligible recipients, and CDAAA will perform an energy
audit to identify pilot program candidates.
Program Overview
The Department of Housing and Community Development
administers the Virginia Weatherization Assistance Program and allocates
funds to local community action agencies including Area Agencies on
Aging and non-profit housing organizations to administer the program
at a local level.
State money (as much as $2,600 per home) will fund
labor and materials for attic insulation, duct work and heading system
inspection and repair where needed.
Dominion funds will supplement that work by providing up to
$1,200 per home for the purchase and installation of compact fluorescent lighting,
programmable thermostats and hot water measures (low-flow showerheads and water
heater wraps).
In addition to having their homes weatherized, pilot program
recipients will receive information on no-cost energy savings measures including
sealing off fireplaces and lowering the thermostat on hot water heaters.
