Calvert County Public Schools were awarded $8,000 to support an energy program in 12 elementary schools and six middle schools across the county.  Fourth grade and 8th grade students will apply math and science concepts that they learn to develop with the school system energy coordinator.  They will learn how to be energy-conscious and develop an energy conservation plan.

Calvert Middle School in Calvert County was awarded $2,000 for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students to build an autonomous robot which will address problems with energy consumption and scarce natural resources.  The program will motivate students to explore education and careers in science, engineering, math and technology.  The program also supports family and community involvement in science education.

Milton Somers Middle School in Charles County was awarded $3,000 to help at-risk low achieving students by increasing parental involvement with the program, “It’s Elementary My Dear.”  At a quarterly reading night, 6th through 8th grade students and their parents will play science and math games and read books that will integrate math and science concepts with language arts.
