Garrisonville Double-Circuit 230kV Line

Project Scope 

Dominion is planning to build a new underground 230 kV double-circuit transmission line from its existing Possum Point to Fredericksburg 230 kV line to a Garrisonville switching substation by late 2009.

The new double-circuit line will tap into an existing north-south transmission line that extends from Possum Point to Fredericksburg and runs parallel to I-95 on the east side. A new transition station will be built within the Dominion right-of-way in Aquia Harbour, where the new double-circuit 230 kV line will begin its 5 mile journey underground to the new Garrisonville switching substation near Mountain View Road.

A minimum of 50’ will be cleared along the center of Dominion’s existing 335’ right-of-way

Underground (Option 1 as an XLPE pilot project)

Late 2009 

Total estimated cost: $83 million

Tentative Schedule of Project

  • Right of way clearing scheduled to begin mid-2008
  • Substation and line construction scheduled to begin fall 2008
  • Planned date for energizing substations is late 2009
