2004 Awards

FWS Conservation Service Award
The Roanoke Rapids/Gaston relicensing process utilized a collaborative approach as opposed to the traditional approach toward identifying and addressing potential environmental issues associated with relicensing of the hydroelectric project. The collaborative approach provides for input and solutions to problems using all stakeholders and a group consensus model. While it might take longer to get the consensus, the result is a license in which every stakeholder has been a participant and for which all have a sense of ownership. Dominion was recognized in 2004 by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) in Region 3 for its efforts in the relicensing process and was awarded the FWS Conservation Service Award, which is the highest award for non-federal employees or groups that is given by the FWS.
