Dominion celebrated the sixth year of its successful employee
volunteer campaign, "Putting Our Energy to Work for the Environment,"
by launching its biggest effort ever in 2005 to improve parks, rivers, hiking
trails
and historic sites with 16 projects in 11 states.
In the six years that Dominion has been doing environmental
projects, the company has provided more than $200,000 for projects at
83 locations in 13 states.
Dominion employees have provided nearly 200,000 volunteer
hours to complete the projects.
The 2005 projects are listed below:
Connecticut
Downtown Niantic: Volunteers from Millstone Power
Station raked, mulched and replaced fencing at Harkness Park in Waterford.
Massachusetts
Trustees of Reservations, Fall River: Volunteers
from Brayton Point Power Station cleaned up a historical lane near the Fall
River.
Dominion volunteers, like these in

North Carolina
Roanoke Rapids Canal Museum &
Trail: Volunteers from Roanoke Rapids made trails more accessible
by installing screen, crush and run. They also installed split rail fencing
and built barriers.
Ohio
Nature Center at Shaker Lakes: Volunteers built garden boxes,
painted drain pipes, instaledl gutters, removed evasive plants and cleared
trails.
Great Trails Council at Camp Manatoc: Volunteers painted a
dormitory and conference center, installed new ceiling tile in the conference
center and worked on landscaping.
Oklahoma
Downtown Oklahoma City Riverfront: Volunteers worked
with the City of Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation to address abatement of
erosion in the vicinity of the Oklahoma River.
Rocky Mount Elk Foundation in Elk County: Volunteers
refurbished an environmental education classroom, built a new roof on
a small springhouse, painted and stained the foundation and stairways,
and removed old fencing and posts.
Indiana County Parks and Trails: Volunteers
erected 700 feet of wooden fencing along portions of the Indiana County
Parks and Trails' Ghost Town Trail. In addition, volunteers placed six
benches along the trail to provide a rest stop for bikers and hikers.

Rhode Island
Rhode Island Audubon Society: Volunteers from the
Manchester Street Power Station picked up trash and cleaned a shoreline.
Texas
Sims Bayou Nature Center in Houston: Relocated New
Orleans employees joined Houston-based employees to repair and construct wooden
decks, install fences and improve landscaping at the historic nature center
in Houston.
Volunteers from Kewaunee Power
Station cleared brush from a 3.5-mile stretch of trail used by snowmobiles.
West Virginia
North Bend State Park in Richie County:
Volunteers developed a scenic footpath around the newly constructed lake
at North Bend State Park in Ritchie County. The multipurpose trail accommodates
hiking, running, mountain biking and horseback riding. Dominion employees
worked on sign placement, trail creation or trail maintenance.
Wisconsin
Kewaunee County Ahnapee State Trail:
Volunteers from Kewaunee Power Station cleared and hauled brush from a
3.5-mile stretch of trail to prepare it for the 2006 snowmobile season.
Virginia
Ward Burton Wildlife Foundation in Halifax County:
Volunteers from Clover Power Station raked, fertilized, seeded and spread lime
and straw on two acres that surround a new lake.
Mossy Creek Trout Stream
in Mt. Solon: Partnering with Trout Unlimited, the Department of
Game and Island Fisheries and a local Boy Scout troop, Dominion volunteers
built stairs and stiles to provide access for fishermen at Mossy Creek
Trout Stream.
Washington & Old Dominion Trail, Fairfax:
Dominion volunteers from Northern Virginia offices built three informational
kiosks, planted 100 trees and removed invasive vines.
