Possum Point Power Station is a 650-acre site located approximately
30 miles south of Washington, D.C that overlooks the Potomac River and
the Quantico Creek.
There are four generating units; two of which are
natural gas fired, one is oil fired, and the other is a dual fired combined-cycle
unit. Both Units 3 & 4 are fired using natural gas but were converted
from coal in May of 2003.
Unit 5 is an oil-fired unit (#6 low sulfur oil) and
Unit 6 is the most recent unit to Possum Point fired by both natural
gas and no. 2 oil. Dominion has retired Possum Point's two oldest units,
Units 1 and 2.
