Possum Point Power Station

Possum Point Power Station is a 650-acre site located approximately 30 miles south of Washington, D.C that overlooks the Potomac River and the Quantico Creek.

There are four generating units; two of which are natural gas fired, one is oil fired, and the other is a dual fired combined-cycle unit. Both Units 3 & 4 are fired using natural gas but were converted from coal in May of 2003.

Unit 5 is an oil-fired unit (#6 low sulfur oil) and Unit 6 is the most recent unit to Possum Point fired by both natural gas and no. 2 oil. Dominion has retired Possum Point's two oldest units, Units 1 and 2.

Dominion's Possum Point Unit 6 is a 550 MW combined-cycle unit that went commercial in July of 2003. Unit 6 is an important part of the Dominion generation fleet as we meet the growing customer demands of Northern Virginia. Unit 6 is reliable, efficient and environmentally friendly.

A new 14-mile pipeline was provided due to the natural gas requirements for the Station. Approximately 85 percent of the pipeline is located within existing Dominion Virginia Power overhead electric transmission rights-of-way or on other Dominion Virginia Power property.
