Dominion's nuclear power stations are safe and efficient,
producing more than 30 percent of the company's electric power requirements
in Virginia. Although it is highly unlikely that a nuclear emergency should
occur at our North Anna or Surry power stations, basic information on how to
respond during an emergency is provided in this section.
This information is part of emergency planning efforts developed
by Dominion, the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Emergency Management,
and the counties
and cities near North Anna and Surry. The state and communities located
within 10 miles of a nuclear power station have prepared emergency response
plans. These plans provide guidelines to the state and local government organizations
which ensure effective direction and control in a nuclear emergency. The plans
include procedures for warning the public and for taking protective actions,
such as sheltering or evacuation, in the event of a nuclear emergency.
Explore the linked pages to learn more about our emergency
planning efforts. For additional information about nuclear energy, we invite
you to visit the North Anna or Surry nuclear information centers. The centers
welcome visitors including individuals having special needs. To assist us in
accommodating any special requirements or needs, we ask that you contact us
in advance of your visit. To arrange a visit or for other information, call
(540) 894-2029 or 2028 for North Anna or (757) 357-5410 for Surry.
