Gather some information and get started:

  • Electric and/or Gas Bills
You'll need to enter your bills for the last year (or a minimum of two months). If you're managing your Dominion account online, you can view and print your information. Sign in, select your account and use the right-hand menu to view past billing and usage. To start managing your account online, register first.
  • Square Footage (of your home or business)
  • Heating, Cooling and Water Heating
You'll need to describe your heating, cooling and water heating systems. If you have more than one type of heating system, you'll need to pick one as the "primary." If you're not sure [for example, if you have gas heat on the first floor and a heat pump on upper floor(s)], select the main floor heating system as "primary."

Professional Home Energy Surveys
If you're interested in getting an on-site energy audit, contact a professional. They use a variety of techniques and equipment to determine the energy efficiency of your home. Equipment such as blower doors measure air leaks and infrared cameras find things like areas of air infiltration and missing insulation.
