Renewable Energy

Energy Choice enables Dominion Virginia Power’s customers to choose the company that supplies (generates) their electricity. Customers concerned about improving the environment can purchase energy from competitive suppliers offering “green or renewable” energy products.

Renewable energy, or green power, is power that comes from renewable resources such as the sun, wind, hydroelectric dams and organic matter (biomass). These resources are constantly replenished by nature and are a cleaner source of energy. Using renewable resources to generate energy reduces the carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide and sulfur dioxide released into the air through more traditional generation.

Dominion Virginia Power customers concerned about improving the environment can:

• buy energy from competitive suppliers that offer renewable energy products or
• buy renewable energy certificates
• investigate ways to use energy efficiently

Suppliers may offer several energy products comprised of all renewable energy or partially renewable energy with the remainder of the energy produced using more traditional fuels. Typically, energy produced using renewable resources will be priced at a premium.
