Energy Assistance Programs

$1 Energy Fund

The $1 Energy Fund, a nonprofit organization, has provided help since 1983 to the income eligible and special needs customers in Dominion Peoples' service area who are faced with problems paying their heating bills. The $1 Energy Fund, supported by utility customers and utility companies' shareholders helps people stay warm during the home heating season. Contributing is Easy
Just add $1 extra when you pay your monthly gas bill, or call Dominion Peoples at 1-800-764-0111 to make a pledge larger than $1 a month. You also can send a check or money order in any amount to: $1 Energy Fund, P.O. Box 42329, Pittsburgh, PA 15203-0329.

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

A federally-funded program, LIHEAP provides grants to income eligible customers. While the program is closed for the 2008-2009 program year, the income guidelines have changed for the 2009-2010 Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) year. If your income falls within the guidelines, you may apply for the program when it opens in November 2009.   Find out more and download an application at the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare web site.

Low Income Usage Reduction Program (LIURP)

Based on income and energy usage, customers may be eligible to receive heating system retrofits, weather-stripping, caulking, insulation and other energy-saving measures.

Customer Assistance Program (CAP)

Based on income and family size, CAP allows customers to pay a certain percentage of their gas bill.

Customer Assistance Referral Evaluation Service (CARES)

Our Customer Relations Representatives provide assessments for customers in special situations, such as the unemployed, those with certain medical needs, or frail older adults.
