Dominion's Surry Unit 1 Achieves World Record Nuclear Refueling
Outage
Richmond,Va. -- Dominion Generation, a unit of Dominion (NYSE:
D), completed this week a refueling and maintenance outage at its Surry Power
Station Unit 1 in a world record for a Westinghouse three-loop nuclear reactor.
The refueling outage ended Tuesday and lasted 23 days, 15
hours and 45 minutes. The previous record for a Westinghouse three-loop reactor
was 24 days set by Florida Power & Light's Turkey Point Unit 4 in the spring
of 1999.
Prior to shutting down April 16 for the refueling outage,
Surry Unit 1 operated for a station record 507 consecutive days, topping the
previous station record of 502 days set by Surry Unit 2 in the spring of 1999.
Both Surry units continuously operated for 277 days prior to the Unit 1 refueling
outage, which was another record accomplishment by the station.
Surry Unit 2 has been on line for 301 days. Its next scheduled
refueling outage will begin in October.
