Dominion Announces Volunteers of the Year

RICHMOND, Va. – Whether building a new home for a needy family or mentoring a child, Dominion employees make a difference in their communities. Dominion continues this tradition by honoring 12 employees as Volunteers of the Year for 2000.

The honorees come from across Dominion's five-state service area and represent every aspect of the company’s work force. These employees demonstrate the spirit of "Volunteers Enriching Life for Others," the theme for the 2000 volunteer-recognition program.

The following employees will be honored at awards ceremonies April 10 in Cleveland, Ohio, and April 18 in Richmond, Va.:

  • Jeff Angeletti, supervisor-Customer Service Center, Akron, Ohio.

"Each year's assessment of our employees' volunteer accomplishments demonstrates renewed dedication to their communities and to individual and group efforts that enrich the lives of people in the areas we serve," said Thos. E. Capps, Dominion chairman, president and CEO. "Dominion is proud of its employees and their volunteer efforts."

Nearly all volunteer hours are contributed on the employee’s own time, although company equipment and monetary donations may be used to support worthy projects such as Habitat for Humanity, Christmas in April, education partnerships, school refurbishing efforts and mentoring programs.

Last year, in a precedent setting, company-wide volunteer effort, more than 400 employees participated in Volunteers: Putting Our Energy to Work for the Environment. Dominion employees in North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia cleaned parks, cleared walking trails and built a canoe storage facility and a park observation deck -- all in a single eight-hour workday. The event, which will be repeated this year, received second place in the Southern Gas Association Community Service Award competition.
