individual and group efforts that enrich the lives of people in the areas we
serve," said Thos. E. Capps, Dominion chairman, president and CEO. "Dominion
is proud of its employees and their volunteer efforts."
Nearly all volunteer hours are contributed on the employee’s
own time, although company equipment and monetary donations may be used to support
worthy projects such as Habitat for Humanity, Christmas in April, education
partnerships, school refurbishing efforts and mentoring programs.
Last year, in a precedent setting, company-wide volunteer
effort, more than 400 employees participated in Volunteers: Putting Our Energy
to Work for the Environment. Dominion employees in North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania,
Virginia and West Virginia cleaned parks, cleared walking trails and built a
canoe storage facility and a park observation deck -- all in a single eight-hour
workday. The event, which will be repeated this year, received second place
in the Southern Gas Association Community Service Award competition.
