Dominion Volunteers Help To Improve Environment in Eight States
RICHMOND, Va. – For the eighth consecutive year, Dominion
volunteers have completed 20 projects to benefit parks and local outdoor agencies
throughout eight states. Projects include building an amphitheater at Lake Anna
State Park in Virginia, removing invasive trees and vines at Denison Pequotsepos
Nature Center in Mystic, Conn., and constructing a roof to cover an outdoor
classroom at Jane Lew Town Park in West Virginia.
Under the "Putting our Energy to Work for the Environment"
program, Dominion employees work with local agencies to locate and plan one-day
projects to improve the environment. The Dominion Foundation provides up to
$2,500 to purchase supplies and materials for each project.
"Our volunteers work, live and play in these communities
and they are acutely aware of the local needs. Dominion is happy to support
their efforts as they make a difference where it counts the most – in
their neighborhoods," said Thomas F. Farrell II, president and chief executive
officer.
Dominion volunteers have refurbished 121 parks and outdoor facilities, and
the Dominion Foundation has contributed more than $300,000 to purchase supplies
and materials since the program’s inception in the fall of 2000.
