Contractor Fatally Injured During Restoration Effort

RICHMOND, Va. -- A lineman employed by Mastec North America Inc. of Asheboro, N.C., was fatally injured Wednesday while restoring service to Virginia Power customers.

Terry Fox, 19, was electrocuted when he came into contact with a 7.6-kilovolt power line shortly before noon at the intersection of Lorraine Station Road and Gaskins Road in west Richmond. Mastec was working under contract to Virginia Power to restore service to the 285,000 Virginia Power customers affected by the Super Bowl Sunday ice storm.

Virginia Power will investigate the accident. The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) was notified about the accident.

"Virginia Power extends its sympathies to Terry's family and to Mastec," said Tom Hyman, senior vice president-Electric Distribution. "This tragedy is felt by linemen and their families everywhere."

Virginia Power is the principal subsidiary of Dominion Resources Inc. (NYSE: D), an energy company with headquarters in Richmond.
