Virginia Power To Conduct Community Leaders Forum For Project
Current Choice
RICHMOND, Va. -- Virginia Power, a subsidiary of Dominion
(NYSE: D), will conduct an educational forum on May 24 to help community leaders
in the greater Richmond area learn how their organizations can participate in
Project Current Choice, the company's retail access pilot program.
The two-and-a-half-hour forum will be conducted twice during
the day, from 2 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. and from 6 p.m. till 8:30 p.m., at the
Innsbrook Technical Center, 5000 Dominion Boulevard, Glen Allen, Va. The workshops
are free of charge.
"Leaders of neighborhood organizations or community
groups can play an important part in helping others understand and benefit from
electric competition," said Mark McGettrick, senior vice president-Customer
Service & Metering. "By joining together to shop for a supplier, group
members may be better positioned to take advantage of the opportunities that
competition will bring."
Project Current Choice is the first step of a multi-year
effort to implement electric choice for 1.9 million Virginia customers served
by Virginia Power. The pilot will enlist volunteers from the city of Richmond,
the town of Ashland and the counties of Chesterfield, Hanover and Henrico to
choose their electricity supplier.
The Virginia
Electric Utility Restructuring Act of 1999 called for retail competition
to be phased in between Jan. 1, 2002, and Jan. 1, 2004. The State Corporation
Commission, Virginia Power and American Electric Power-Virginia are conducting
retail choice pilot programs to get ready for full competition.
Dominion is the nation's largest fully integrated natural
gas and electric company, providing energy to more than 4 million customers
in five states. More information on Dominion can be found on the Internet at
