Virginia Power Hosts Supplier Forum For "Project Current Choice"

RICHMOND, Va. -- Virginia Power, a subsidiary of Dominion (NYSE: D), will host a forum next week to inform potential competitive electricity suppliers how they can participate in Project Current Choice, the company's retail access pilot program.

The forum is scheduled for June 15 from 9 a.m. till 4 p.m. at the Virginia Power Innsbrook Technical Center, 5000 Dominion Boulevard, Glen Allen, Va. The forum is free of charge.

"We are encouraging as many suppliers as possible to participate in our pilot," said Edgar M. Roach Jr., Virginia Power chief executive officer. "This forum is presented at this time because we believe it is extremely important for competitive electricity suppliers to have all the information they need to get licensed and participate in Project Current Choice."

The forum will provide an overview of a number of issues, including the pilot's size and scope, supplier registration, billing, electronic data interchange, load profiling, forecasting, scheduling and settlement. It will include several breakout sessions on some of the key topics.

Under Project Current Choice, about 35,500 Virginia Power customers in the city of Richmond, the town of Ashland and the counties of Chesterfield, Hanover and Henrico can sign up with a new electricity supplier. Energy delivery to these customers can begin as early as September.

Virginia Power has conducted a comprehensive consumer education campaign that includes radio, television, newspapers, billboards, movie screens, Internet banners and metro traffic and National Public Radio sponsorships. A Project Current Choice direct mail piece was sent this week to all 340,000 Virginia Power customers in the pilot area. Later this month, each customer also will receive a bill insert.

In the fall, Project Current Choice will expand to Fairfax County, the city of Fairfax and the towns of Clifton, Herndon, Vienna and Reston. The projected date for the start of competitive electricity supply in the Fairfax area is January 2001. At that point, another 35,500 Virginia Power customers will be able to participate.

Also, the company expects as many as 80 large commercial and industrial customers throughout Virginia Power's service territory to participate in the pilot. If fully subscribed, Project Current Choice would be one of the largest electricity pilots conducted in the United States, with more than 70,000 customers representing about 400 megawatts of load.

Interested suppliers can register for the forum by writing to: Virginia Power, Supplier Relations, P.O. Box 26666, Richmond, Va., 23261; sending an e-mail to Supplier_Services@dom.com; or calling (804) 755-5040.
