Dominion's Nuclear Units Set New Generation Record in 2000

RICHMOND, Va. – For a fifth consecutive year, Dominion’s nuclear power stations set a new company record for electric generation, producing more than 28.3 million megawatt-hours in 2000.

"Our record performance is the result of continued focus on safe and reliable operation and an excellent team of highly trained and dedicated employees," said Thomas F. Farrell II, chief executive officer of Dominion Energy, a subsidiary of Dominion (NYSE: D), one of the nation's largest energy producers.

North Anna Power Station in Louisa County, Va., has two pressurized water reactors with Unit 1 capable of generating 925 megawatts net and Unit 2 capable of generating 917 megawatts net. Surry Power Station in Surry County, Va., also has two pressurized water reactors with Unit 1 capable of generating 810 megawatts net and Unit 2 capable of generating 815 megawatts net. Despite refueling outages for three of the four units in 2000, the units produced some 19,000 mwh more electricity than in 1999.

Other Dominion Energy nuclear group accomplishments in 2000 included a company record unit run of 522 days by North Anna Unit 1; all four units operating concurrently for 100 days on two consecutive occasions; and all four units available 100 percent of the time during peak winter and summer seasons.
