Dominion Virginia Power Offers Educational
Grants
RICHMOND, Va. -- For the sixth consecutive year, educational
institutions can win grants from Dominion Virginia Power through its Education
Partnership program.
Applications have been mailed to public and private elementary
and secondary schools throughout Virginia. Public school divisions, institutions
of higher education, state agencies and 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations are
also eligible.
“We welcome the chance to help schools reach goals in the
special programs created for students,” said Eva Teig Hardy, senior vice president-External
Affairs and Corporate Communications. “The grants can supply materials and fund
field trips or whatever it takes to teach and inspire children who are eager
to learn.”
The partnership program provides grants ranging from $500
to $5,000 to enable students in grades K-12 to strengthen math and science skills.
A total of $75,000 will be awarded to Virginia organizations that submit successful
grant proposals. The application deadline is May 29.
Grant recipients have proved to be innovative in their ventures.
Last year the Fauquier Outdoor Lab in Warrenton used its $1,400 grant for the
“Dentition Detectives,” a program that observed and classified animal skulls
according to tooth arrangement. More than $3,000 was spent by Potomac Elementary
School in Dahlgren in its efforts to raise and preserve Virginia’s rare plants.
