Dominion Virginia Power Receives Economic
Development Award For Third Straight Year
RICHMOND, Va. – For the third consecutive year, Dominion
Virginia Power’s economic development program has been named one of the nation’s
10 best by Site Selection, a leading publication for site location and real
estate professionals. Dominion Virginia Power is a subsidiary of Dominion (NYSE:
D), one of the nation's largest energy producers.
“This year’s entries for our top 10 competition were impressive
in terms of going after business with programs and technological advances,”
said Tracy Heath, Site Selection senior editor. “Many site consultants praised
the efforts of these groups. Some consultants are contacting the utility groups
before anyone else in the state when they have a new project.”
The Top 10 Utilities list is a yearly effort by the editors
of Site Selection, who survey utility companies nationwide to determine the
number and type of facilities that have located in their service areas, the
number of jobs created and the methods that were used to attract them.
“Dominion delivers what our customers need to get a new project
up and running on schedule,” said Edgar M. Roach Jr., chief executive officer.
"This award is an acknowledgment of the hard work of our economic development
professionals and sound partnerships with Virginia’s state and local governments
and business leaders.”
Dominion Virginia Power’s support to state and local agencies
helped create more than 7,445 new jobs, with an estimated investment of $1.5
billion in the company’s service area in 2000.
Site Selection is the official publication of the International
Development Research Council. It was established in the 1950s and is published
by Conway Data, headquartered in Atlanta. Information about Site Selection can
