Dominion Virginia Power Offers Educational
Grants To Schools, Organizations
RICHMOND, Va. – For the seventh consecutive year, Virginia
schools and educational organizations can apply for
educational partnership grants for math and science projects from Dominion
Virginia Power.
Applications have been mailed to public and private elementary
and secondary schools throughout Virginia. Public school divisions, institutions
of higher education, state agencies and 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations are
also eligible for the grants. The application deadline is May 1.
This year, $200,000 will be awarded throughout Dominion’s
service areas, including North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West
Virginia. In Virginia, $75,000 will be distributed. The partnership program
provides grants up to $5,000 to help students in grades K-12 strengthen math
and science skills.
“We encourage schools to be hands-on in their approach
to learning,” said Edgar M. Roach Jr., president and chief executive officer.
“Whether it’s studying forest ecosystems or developing after-school enrichment
programs, Dominion is proud to partner with schools in exploring new and innovative
ways to learn."
Since the program began, Dominion has awarded a total of
$425,000 to schools in Virginia. For example, last year a middle school received
funding to study the ecology, life cycles and history of the Chesapeake Bay
by hatching and releasing shad.
