Dominion Energy Returns
North Anna Unit 2 To Service
RICHMOND, Va. - Dominion Energy, the electric
generating unit of Dominion (NYSE: D), returned Unit 2 at its North Anna Power
Station to service Sunday, successfully completing a refueling outage that included
installing a new crack-resistant reactor vessel head.
The outage began in early September as a normal refueling
and maintenance outage, but was extended after inspections of the original vessel
head found indications of minor leakage in certain welds that attach control
rod drive guide and instrument tubes to the head. The company located and purchased
a new vessel head from Framatome ANP of France and installed it in January.
Thomas F. Farrell II, president and chief executive officer
of Dominion Energy, said:
"Until now, no other U.S. utility has successfully completed
a vessel head replacement outage. Dominion accomplished this work safely and
efficiently, and we'll use this know-how to replace vessel heads this year on
our other Virginia nuclear units."
The company has purchased two additional vessel heads from
Framatome and will install them on North Anna Unit 1 and Surry Unit 1 this spring.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries of Japan will supply a new vessel that will be installed
at Surry Unit 2 this fall.
Dominion has a diversified and integrated energy portfolio
consisting of about 24,000 megawatts of generation. Dominion also serves more
than 3.8 million franchise natural gas and electric customers in five states.
