CARLTON, Wis. – Dominion Generation, the
unit of Dominion that operates electric generating stations in 11 states, has
named Michael G. Gaffney, a 32-year veteran of nuclear operations, as site vice
president at Kewaunee Power Station.
Dominion closed July 5 on its purchase of Kewaunee
from Wisconsin Public Service Corporation, a subsidiary WPS Resource Corporation
and Wisconsin Power and Light Company, a subsidiary of Alliant Energy.
Gaffney previously was director-Nuclear Safety
& Licensing at Dominion’s Surry Power Station in Virginia. Since joining
Dominion in 1997 he has held several nuclear leadership positions, including
in the outage and planning, operations and organizational effectiveness departments.
Gaffney received a bachelor’s degree in
mathematics from the U.S. Naval Academy. His 26-year naval career included serving
as chief engineer of a nuclear-powered cruiser, executive officer of a 600-person
nuclear-powered cruiser, commanding officer of a 300-person frigate, and commanding
officer of a 600-person nuclear-powered cruiser before retiring in 1997.
Dominion is one of the nation's largest producers
of energy, with an energy portfolio of about 28,700 megawatts of generation,
about 6 trillion cubic feet equivalent of proved natural gas reserves and 7,900
miles of natural gas transmission pipeline. Dominion also operates the nation's
largest underground natural gas storage system with more than 960 billion cubic
feet of storage capacity and serves retail energy customers in eight states.
