PITTSBURGH – The Japan-America Society of Pennsylvania (JASP) is getting a helping hand from Dominion Peoples. The local energy provider announced it is providing a $2,000 grant to help bring Japanese culture and language to students and classrooms here in southwestern Pennsylvania.

The Japan-America Society of Pennsylvania is a non-profit, non-political organization devoted to promoting enlightened relations between the citizens of Japan and the United States. Its education programs serve as a catalyst for intellectual and cultural exchange about the US - Japan relationship. Topics include Japanese culture, education, public affairs, business issues, and the state of the US-Japan relationship. Annual activities include, Japan in the Schools classroom visits, the Japan Bowl - a Japanese language competition for high school students, and a Teacher Resource Center.

JASP Executive Director Elise S. Moersch said: “Because of support from companies like Dominion Peoples, we are able to provide an overall quality education about Japanese culture and language. We applaud and appreciate Dominion’s involvement.”

The grant was made through the Dominion Foundation, which is dedicated to the economic, physical and social health of the communities served by Dominion companies.
