Local Japan-America Society Gets a Big Push From Dominion
Peoples
PITTSBURGH – The Japan-America Society of Pennsylvania
(JASP) is getting a helping hand from Dominion Peoples. The local energy provider
announced it is providing a $2,000 grant to help bring Japanese culture and
language to students and classrooms here in southwestern Pennsylvania.
The Japan-America Society of Pennsylvania is a non-profit,
non-political organization devoted to promoting enlightened relations between
the citizens of Japan and the United States. Its education programs serve as
a catalyst for intellectual and cultural exchange about the US - Japan relationship.
Topics include Japanese culture, education, public affairs, business issues,
and the state of the US-Japan relationship. Annual activities include, Japan
in the Schools classroom visits, the Japan Bowl - a Japanese language competition
for high school students, and a Teacher Resource Center.
JASP Executive Director Elise S. Moersch said: “Because of
support from companies like Dominion Peoples, we are able to provide an overall
quality education about Japanese culture and language. We applaud and appreciate
Dominion’s involvement.”
The grant was made through the Dominion Foundation, which
is dedicated to the economic, physical and social health of the communities
served by Dominion companies.
