Local Students Get A Big Lift From Dominion Peoples
PITTSBURGH – The National Foundation for Teaching
Entrepreneurship, Inc. (NFTE) continues to gain support from Dominion Peoples.
Dominion Peoples announced it is providing a $13,700 grant to support a business
ownership program for Pittsburgh youth.
This marks the 5th year that Dominion has partnered with
NFTE to bring entrepreneur education programs to high school classrooms.
The grant will allow NFTE to implement BizTechTM, an online
entrepreneurial training program at George Westinghouse High School. About 30
high school students in the field of accounting plan to participate in the program
this fall.
After completing the BizTechTM program, students will:
- Create a comprehensive business plan online.
- Learn about business, marketing and entrepreneurship.
- Participate in learning exercises that emulate a real
business.
- Conduct market research and share ideas online.
- Become familiar with financial periodicals such as the
Wall Street Journal.
Ed Roach, chief executive officer of Dominion Peoples, said
Dominion deeply believes in the benefits of learning entrepreneurship in order
to achieve economic independence.
“Dominion Peoples is proud to be able to partner with NFTE”
Roach said. “We encourage the business community to join us in promoting a much
needed and worthwhile program.”
NFTE is a fourteen-year old international organization dedicated
to introducing low-income and at-risk youth on ways to develop and start their
own small businesses. So far, over 2,000 local youth have been taught the program.
The grant was made possible through the Dominion Foundation,
which is dedicated to the economic, physical and social health of the communities
served by Dominion companies.
