Dominion Tower To Host Largest Earth Day Celebration In Downtown Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH - Dominion will host
its 9th Annual Earth Day celebration along with Oxford Development Corporation.
The Earth Day celebration will take place in the lobby of Dominion Tower today,
April 22, 2002. Generally the event draws over 1,000 spectators each year.
Highlights for this year's Earth Day include:
Interactive and colorful displays complete with giveaways
and door prizes.
Second and third grade students from Cardinal Wright Regional
School will be specially invited to attend this year's event.
Experts from Pittsburgh's top environmental groups and
agencies that will be on hand to answer questions and provide information.
This year's theme for Earth Day is Education Outreach. As
a way to demonstrate its continued commitment towards education, the Dominion
Foundation will present each environmental group with a $1,000 grant to support
educational outreach programs offered to children. Also, a $2,500 grant will
be presented to Cardinal Wright Regional School for environmental mini grants.
A total of $14,500 will be presented throughout the day.
In addition, live animals and exotic birds of prey will highlight
the 3-hour event. Dominion will provide free flower and vegetable seedlings
to the public. This marks the 9th year that Dominion has sponsored Earth Day
at Dominion Tower.
The Dominion Environmental Awareness Team is a group of Dominion
employees concerned about the environment and preserving natural resources.
The event is open to the general public from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The celebration
will honor the 31st anniversary of Earth Day, which is being celebrated worldwide
on this same day.
