Dominion Companies To Observe Take Our Daughters
To Work Day
Several Locations To Participate
Clarksburg, W.Va. - Dominion Transmission and Dominion Hope
have planned facility tours, parent-child job-shadowing and workshops during
the annual 2002 Take Our Daughters To Work Day on April 25. This year's theme
is "Change The Way The World Works." Locations participating include those in
Delmont, Luthersburg and Sabinsville in Pennsylvania; Leesburg Station in Virginia,
Lebanon Area in Ohio; and Weston, Pineville and Clarksburg in West Virginia.
The Clarksburg program will include mini-workshops and guest
speaker Federal Judge Irene M. Keeley of the Northern District of West Virginia.
The event, now in its 10th year, was created by the Ms. Foundation
for Women. The day was designed to encourage adults and other mentors to take
their daughters or other girls ages 9-15 to work and engage them in activities
that build self-esteem, heighten career aspirations and introduce them to different
work opportunities.
Take Our Daughters To Work is a day for girls to be visible,
valued and heard. By the year 2005, two out of three new workers will be women,
and women will comprise 48 percent of total paid workers. Women passed a milestone
in the boardroom in the '90s, for the first time holding more than 10 percent
of the directors' seats at the nation's 500 largest companies.
