December 2005 — Richmond Public Schools Advertising
Campaign
As a long-time supporter of public education through mentoring
programs, educational grants, refurbishing projects and employee volunteers,
Dominion sponsored a series of four newspaper ads to highlight programs offered
by the city school system in Richmond, Virginia. The ads appear in Richmond
on Dec. 5 and Jan. 6 and showcase some of the city's most unique programs
and the talented students, teachers and coaches who make each one of them
a success. Below is a brief description and link to each.
First
LEGO League Program -- This program provides boys and girls
with a firsthand introduction to the basics of engineering. They learn to
build and program robots that compete with those from other schools in the
metro, state and international arenas.
SPACE
Program (Special Program for Academic and Creative Excellence)
-- The SPACE program lets students create and build their own inventions,
enabling youngsters to learn logical and visual thinking skills in ways
that can’t be taught through writing, reading and arithmetic. The
Invention Convention is one of many "projects" in the SPACE program.
Classical
Guitar Instruction -- For 21 years, the Richmond Public School
system has been teaching classical guitar — an ideal way to provide
students with an avenue for creativity and self-expression.
Richmond
Eagles Basketball and Cheerleading -- The Richmond Eagles Basketball
Program includes basketball players and cheerleaders and is a part of the
Medford Basketball League, which provides special needs students with an
opportunity to participate in inter-scholastic athletics. It provides students
with opportunities to enhance the development of their social, recreational
and other life skills
