Power is always "waiting" to meet your needs. And it's easy to take for granted until you walk into a room and instinctively switch on a light during a power failure, and nothing happens. Suddenly, it becomes really important.

Because power is so important, it's good to understand how it gets to your house. It travels along an amazing path from a power plant through a system called the power distribution grid. There is much involved along the way, including transmission substations, high voltage transmission lines, substations, fuses, transformers -- all the way down to your electric meter.
