To ensure continued reliable electric service to our customers and local electric cooperatives, Dominion Virginia Power proposes a new 230,000-volt (230 kV).
The new 230 kV transmission line will extend from Dominion's Remington Combustion Turbine (CT) facility in southern Fauquier County to the Gainesville Substation in Prince William County and will be located entirely on transmission facilities recently authorized by the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC) under another project.
The Virginia SCC approved the certificate of public convenience and necessity for this project on March 10, 2010. The line was energized on May 9, 2012.
The proposed line will resolve several violations of mandatory NERC reliability standards. Additionally, the project will improve the operating efficiency of two local electric generation units; Remington CT (owned by Dominion Virginia Power) and Marsh Run CT (owned by ODEC, Old Dominion Electric Cooperative).
