Renewable Energy Pilot Program

As of December 1, 2013, qualified customers may participate in the Virginia State Corporation Commission’s Renewable Energy Pilot Program.

This pilot program allows qualified customers to enter into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with a third party renewable energy supplier.  The energy supplied must come from a wind or solar generator located on the customer’s premise.

Here are the steps needed for participation:

  • Step 1
    Provide written notification of your intent to participate via an email to
  • Step 2
    A Dominion representative will contact you to confirm receipt of your notification and discuss potential interconnection scenarios.
  • Step 3
    Once interconnection approval has been granted, and all changes to existing facilities are made (if applicable), you may begin to purchase power from your third party supplier.
  • Step 4
    Provide monthly generation data from renewable facilities as stated in the Virginia State Corporation Commission Order
