The Somers Solar Center, built by Prime Solutions Inc., a Connecticut contractor, occupies 50 acres, and consists of 23,150 Kyocera solar panels that will generate enough electricity to supply about 5,000 homes. The electricity will go to Connecticut Light & Power Co. under a 20-year purchased-power agreement. The project was developed by Kyocera Solar, Inc., headquartered in Scottsdale, Az., and CleanPath, a San Francisco-based clean-energy company.
In addition to supplying solar energy to the people of Connecticut, the company also provides carbon-free nuclear energy from its Millstone Power Station in Waterford. The Somers project joins a growing list of renewable projects that Dominion has announced or brought online this year as the company maintains its focus on providing a mix of affordable, clean and reliable power.
