Anthem Hotline Established

Learn if Your Social Security Number (SSN) Was Exposed in Recent Cyber Attack

Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield

As Anthem continues investigating the impact of the recent cyber-attack, they are providing additional details about the potential exposure of specific personal information in the breached database. The FBI is continuing its investigation of what data was actually extracted from the database that was breached, so at this point we do not know if additional information will be made available. They are, however, able to confirm if an individual’s Social Security number was in the database at all.

Beginning today, employees can call a dedicated hotline number – 844-898-5149 – to learn specifically if their Social Security Number was in the database and potentially exposed. (Please Note:  “Exposed” simply means your information was in the database accessed by the attackers; again, the investigation continues to determine if any of the exposed data was compromised.)

The hotline will be open from 9am to 9pm EST Monday through Saturday. It will require that you authenticate yourself so you will be asked for personal information as part of that process.  Anthem will only be able to identify with a YES or NO as to whether your SSN was exposed. You may request this information for each covered dependent under the age of 18. Enrolled members age 18 or older (whether spouse or dependent child) must call independently in order to receive confirmation.

Anthem continues to notify members of the data breach via U.S. mail, and you may or may not have received letters at this point. You and your family members may receive letters at different times. Please remember that this letter contains only the level of detail that has been posted on the www.anthemfacts.com website, and does not include any additional or individual information about what personal data was exposed. The hotline referenced above is the mechanism by which you may confirm if your SSN was exposed.

I strongly encourage you to continue to safeguard your personal information and to please take advantage of the free identity protection and credit monitoring services Anthem is providing for two years through AllClear due to this potential exposure.

For the most up-to-date information regarding breach concerns, please remember to check the www.anthemfacts.com website. Thank you for your patience as Anthem continues to work through this process.
