We partner with the educational community through mentoring initiatives, philanthropic support and other means to strengthen STEM competitiveness and help prepare students for tomorrow’s workplace.

Educational Grants


  • Dominion Diversity Scholarship
    Open to students enrolled full-time in a field of study mutually beneficial to Dominion and the individual. This program assists eligible students in achieving their fullest potential by providing a $5,000 scholarship and a 10-12 week paid summer internship.

  • Dominion Memorial Scholarship
    The Virginia Tech shootings on April 16, 2007 tragically claimed the lives of three college students whose parent or grandparent worked for Dominion. In their honor, Dominion offers scholarships for the children or grandchildren of a retired or current, permanent, full-time Dominion employee.

  • Dominion Careers in Energy at Three Rivers Community Technical College
    Supports promising candidates for the Nuclear Engineering Technology program at Three Rivers Community College in Norwich, Connecticut, with up to 16 two-year scholarship awards per year, which includes tuition and fees, books, monthly stipend, and a summer internship assignment at Dominion's Millstone Power Station.

  • Dominion Credit Union Scholarship Program
    Provides educational funds for Dominion Credit Union members who are graduating high school seniors enrolling as full-time students enrolled in an accredited college or university.

  • Combined College Funds
    In the states where Dominion has a broad customer base, we support a variety of combined college funds – United Negro College Fund (UNCF) as well as statewide and regional foundations for independent colleges and community colleges.

Programs for Teachers & Students

  • Project Plant It!
    A program designed by Dominion and honored by the Arbor Day Foundation, Project Plant It! is a community effort to educate children, plant trees and improve the environment. Each spring, thousands of students receive their very own tree seedling to plant in celebration of Arbor Day.

  • Strong Men and Women: Excellence in Leadership Series
    In this unique program, one of our most popular, Dominion has partnered with the educational community to provide youth with positive role models, African-American men and women whose accomplishments and determination demonstrate true excellence in leadership.

  • Strong Men & Women: Excellence in Leadership Teaching Guide
    The teaching guide provides activities for primary and secondary teaching levels along with lesson plans to go with suggested readings from the Strong Men & Women site (above).

  • James River Expedition
    A “floating classroom” adventure taking high school students down the entire 340-mile length of the James River. Thirty students from across Virginia receive hands-on lessons on water quality, marine life, and how they can keep the waterway clean.

  • Talks & Tours
    Learn about public tours offered at Dominion's power stations and facilities. Also, company representatives can present topics to organizations, or give presentations to school groups.

  • Speakers Bureau Program
    Dominion Virginia Power has an experienced group of employee volunteers specially trained to conduct free educational presentations to schools, community groups and civic organizations in its service area.
