The U.S. Department of Transportation requires us to tell you about your responsibility for maintaining certain pipelines that deliver natural gas to your home or business. There is one piece of pipeline that you need to maintain--your home or business line.
If you do have any buried home or business lines, you should have them inspected for leaks and corrosion to avoid a potential hazard. Use a reputable, qualified contractor to ensure the work is done properly.
Call before you dig! In Ohio, call 1-800-362-2764 at least two working days before digging. The Ohio Utilities Protection Service (OUPS) will alert Dominion East Ohio and other member utilities of your plans to dig, then ask the utilities to mark any underground pipes or cables at your location.
They'll also tell you about any other companies that you must notify before you begin digging. This is a free service.
In the event that you have sustained damage, loss or injury that you feel is the responsibility of Dominion East Ohio/Hope (Dominion), you may file a claim.
The investigation or the filing of a claim is neither an admission of liability nor a guarantee of payment. Your claim will be investigated by our Claims Department and a determination of liability will be made. All claims are handled on a case-by-case basis. You will be contacted and advised of our position concerning your claim, either in writing or by telephone.
Prior to filing a claim, please familiarize yourself with a few examples of claims Dominion typically does not honor.
As specified in our tariff, Dominion makes a best effort to furnish adequate gas pressure; however, Dominion cannot and does not guarantee a sufficient supply of gas, adequate or uniform gas pressure, an uninterrupted supply of gas, or the quality of the gas supplied; nor shall it be liable for any damage to person or property directly or indirectly attributable to the insufficiency of the gas supply.

If you observe or learn about possible theft of natural gas, you can report it anonymously. Read more and make a report online. Or call customer service at 1-800-362-7557. Information is kept strictly confidential.
Dominion does not call or email customers to obtain confidential information such as a Social Security number or bank account number. It is not normal for Dominion to contact you “out of the blue” to ask you to divulge personal information, however convincing it might sound.
If anyone calls, texts or emails you or your friends pretending be a Dominion representative requesting your personal information, that is just what they are doing - pretending. They may be trying to take your identity, your money or both. This may be a scam. Capture the phone number. Hang up. Don’t reply. Report the suspicious activity to local authorities to avoid letting you or others become another victim.
Sometimes scam artists try to pressure their victims by claiming power will be shut off if immediate payment is not received. If you have a problem paying your bills, we work with you to figure out a reasonable payment plan, we do not threaten you.
The same kind of precaution applies to face-to-face situations. Never allow anyone in your house or apartment who claims to be a Dominion representative unless you have scheduled an appointment or reported a problem. And, even in those cases, ask for proper identification.
