Conservation and Efficiency

In March 2010, Dominion received approval from the Virginia SCC of an energy efficiency plan that can result in savings for our customers. These five energy conservation programs are meant to help customers save money and help Dominion meet the energy demand gap. In April 2010, Dominion officially launched the programs for customers to enroll and start saving!

In addition to these approved programs, Dominion is demonstrating smart grid and smart metering technologies across the state. Dominion Virginia Power has installed smart meters in portions of northern Virginia, Midlothian, and Charlottesville as part of the company's multi-phased evaluation and ongoing testing of smart meters. Dominion’s smart meter demonstrations are part of Dominion’s commitment to provide safe, reliable and cost effective service. Smart meters utilize digital technology that enables two-way communication between the meters and Dominion. These meters provide significant benefits such as the ability to remotely read the meter as well as deliver consistent voltage levels.

As requested by our customers, Dominion allows our customers to support renewable energy above and beyond our initiatives. By signing up your home or business for Dominion Green Power, you are ensuring that renewable energy is delivered to the electrical grid and you are helping to support new renewable energy facilities. Dominion will purchase renewable energy certificates in the amount specified by participating customers. For more information about the program, see the Frequently Asked Questions.

Energy calculators, information for kids, and easy conservation tips have also been developed to attract ideas from the public about how to save energy and money while helping the environment.
