A recent addition to our renewable portfolio is a wind power development in Grant, County, W.Va. Partnering with Shell WindEnergy Inc., we own a 50 percent share in NedPower Mount Storm, which includes 132 wind turbines. The wind farm produces 264 megawatts of power - enough to serve at least 66,000 homes. The project became fully operational in late 2008. (>> Learn more.)
Fowler Ridge Wind Farm
Dominion also has a 50 percent interest in the Fowler Ridge I Wind Farm, which is jointly owned by BP Wind Energy. The facility is located in Benton County, Indiana, about 90 miles northwest of Indianapolis.
Commercial operation of Phase I began in 2009. The 300 megawatts generated can produce enough carbon-free electricity to power approximately 75,000 average homes. Dominion is in the early stages of development on Phase IV, which would generate 150 megawatts.
Dominion and BP Wind Energy also plan to jointly develop, own and operate other wind energy projects in Virginia. (>> Read about this agreement.)
